October Reads

Last month, I finished up reading Unmasking Autism: Discovering the New Faces of Neurodiversity by Devon Price, listened to the audiobook of Rest is Resistance: A Manifesto by Tricia Hersey, and didn’t get the chance to pick up Inverse Cowgirl: A Memoir by Alicia Weigel like I’d hoped. From what I did read, some of my takeaways were that our society hasn’t been built to accommodate neurodivergent needs, and we deserve accommodations, and that REST IS INDEED RESISTANCE. Tricia Hersey’s work had me reflecting a lot on the relationship between rest and pleasure. If you know me, you know I’m passionate about pleasure, and I don’t see pleasure as being possible for many if there isn’t access to adequate rest.

With that, how are you resting this month? And how are you making/requesting/accessing accommodations for your unique brain? For me, my body has been asking for a little more sleep lately so I am resting by listening to that. I’m accommodating my unique brain’s need for silence by requesting space for that in my household.

Onto October reads! This month I’m reading The Age of Magical Overthinking by Amanda Montell and Come Together by Emily Nagoski. Read along with me if you so choose!
